Unfortunately, coffee doesn’t fall from the sky. Not all cultures incorporate the beloved beverage into their daily rituals, and it can be difficult to come by a good cup of Joe when away from home. Luckily, there are a number of products that allow travelers to satiate their caffeine cravings wherever they choose to wander.
Grind The Beans
The pocket-sized VIA instant packets from Starbucks ($5.49) are excellent for travel and camping; all you need is boiling water, and they take up virtually no space. Instant coffee tends to be the easiest to make on the road, but if you really want to get fancy, GSI sells the Outdoors Java Mill at $29.95 for grinding beans.
Percolate
Again, there’s a good deal of variation on how this can be achieved. For boiling water, Coghlan’s $9.99 folding stoves are portable and fit easily into a daypack. There are a number of inexpensive drip coffee makers on the market as well, and the Bodom travel press actually serves as both a mug and a way to make coffee ($18).
Add Cream And Sugar
Powdered creamer is the way to go. It comes in light, compact containers and there’s no need to worry about liquid spilling in your backpack or expiring. Buy sugar in individually wrapped packets.
