Gone are the days of carrying heavy guidebooks or hoarding crumpled pieces of paper with everyone’s recommendations on it. These days, there are helpful apps at your fingertips for all aspects of your trip. Try out some of our favorites to make planning and going on your next trip a breeze.

Duolingo [Android, iOS]

Get a jumpstart on learning a new language with this handy free app. From Spanish and French to Dutch and Italian, you’ll hone your language skills through visuals, writing your own sentences and even translating all from your phone.

Hipmunk [Android, iOS]

Whether you need to book a flight or find a hotel, Hipmunk has one of the best interfaces we’ve found. Its flights are sorted by “Agony” ratings, which measure how cheap a flight is, how long the flight is and how many stops you’ll endure.

Hostelworld [Android, iOS]

The popular website to find hostels and guesthouses has an app and it’s a good one. It’ll search for nearby hostels or let you put in any city you’d like, making it super easy to book accommodations on the go.

Trail Wallet [iOS]

This awesome app lets you track your expenses easily and keep your finances in check. You can add your budget for multiple trips, easily add amounts in either your home currency or the local one and organize spending by category. Our one gripe? Right now, the app is available only on iPhone.

Tripoto [Android, iOS]

This unique site lets you explore others’ itineraries by categories like adventure travel, day trips and beach holidays; read user tips and recommendations for different locales; browse photos and more.

Trover [Android, iOS]
Like Pinterest for travelers, you can find inspiration for trips you’d like to take, create your own lists of places you want to see and share your own stories for others to discover.
