In early June, business brought me to Miami with a colleague. A late-afternoon meeting on a Friday meant we couldn’t easily depart until late Friday or early Saturday, so we decided to take advantage of the opportunity and spend our Saturday in South Beach.
On Saturday morning, we woke early and enjoyed the nice weather with a long walk, first down Collins from 4th to 20th, and then along the path by the beach on Ocean Drive. But the highlight of the morning was a delicious brunch at The Local House. Located on the corner of 4th Street and Ocean Drive and attached to the Sense Beach House boutique hotel, our al fresco table afforded us a great vantage point and good people watching. Sense Beach House is reminiscent of your own private beach home.
I must have been thirsty after our morning stroll, as I soon had a mimosa, freshly squeezed watermelon juice, coffee and water in front of me. The servers were friendly and efficient, but also respected our wishes for a long, leisurely brunch. From entrees and sides to signature cocktails and a variety of coffees and teas, the brunch menu offers something to delight any diner.
I opted for the crab cake benedict, which was a perfect blend of breakfast and lunch. A crab cake sat atop an English muffin and was topped with a poached egg, tomato, sautéed spinach and parsley hollandaise, served with home fries. My coworker went with a traditional eggs benedict and we shared a few bites of the house French toast — brioche bread, caramelized walnuts, bananas and strawberries — for a sweet finish to the meal.
The brunch was the perfect way for us to fuel up for the rest of our day.
