Tips / Travel

Great marketing campaigns can lead to high expectation when it comes to travel, and they can also lead to spectacular disappointment when it comes to certain famous landmarks. Here are a few you can safely skip without missing much.

The Great Pyramids

The most famous pyramids in the world are also the worst tourist traps. They’re certainly a work of art, but what pictures don’t show is they’re practically nestled right up against modern-day Cairo. The views once there aren’t truly great and the crowds are a nightmare. Check out some lesser-known pyramids instead.

The Grand Canyon

The expansive canyon is a favorite for cross-country road trippers but it comes with quite the sticker shock. Walking over on the skywalk isn’t cheap and the winds around the canyon make it so cold you’ll barely be able to stomach a few minutes there. There are greater views around the world.

The Louvre

Even art enthusiasts get exhausted after standing in line to get into this place. Expect to spend a few hours waiting around then the rest of the day walking through the Louvre if you want to take it all in. Want to see the “Mona Lisa”? You can, but from about 20 feet away.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

Some people travel to the Hollywood Walk of Fame expecting to catch glimpse of celebrities, but all you’ll really see are hookers walking over their handprints. There are plenty of places to go to see actors in action, but this little strip of road isn’t one of them. Give it a pass.
