The long and arduous aspect of travel can involve hours at airports, sometimes overnight. Whether you face long delays or a multi-hours layover during your next trip and a nap is your only option for sanity, here are a few pointers to ensure you have a comfortable and safe sleep at the airport.
Scout out a location. Take a lap around the airport and make a mental note of any spots that seem comfortable and secluded, but not too removed from foot traffic. Perhaps there is an empty row of armrest-less seats up for grabs and prime for lying down.
Some airports post signs in certain areas of the building to warn travelers “camping” or sleeping is prohibited. Keep alert of any posted regulations, and sleep elsewhere when in doubt.
Get cozy. Intruding armrests and curious onlookers may make any potential napper a bit nervous. Block out light and noise with an eye mask and ear plugs, respectively. Just like on an airplane, rest a travel pillow underneath your head like a bed pillow.
Protect yourself (and your stuff). A sleeping traveler is an obvious target for theft. Using your soft luggage or handbag as a pillow is a way to keep items close. Although it may look rather strange, hugging your luggage is also an option so that if anyone tries to snatch it, you’ll feel the slightest bit of movement.
Sleep pods are on the rise at some major airports around the world, but for budget travelers who seek a quick snooze, the tips above can ensure a restful and safe sleep between flights.
