Tips / Travel

Lyft rides are available in most cities and have four available riding styles. The first, Lyft Line, is a shared ride experience where the Lyft app pairs the customer with others going in the same direction to split the costs.

Lyft and Lyft Plus are available nationwide and are a more personal ride; Plus offers more seating. Lyft Premier is only available in select cities and is the highest-end car and service available. Base fare is $1.13, $1.10 per mile and $0.18 a minute plus convenience fees, totaling the ride to about the same as an Uber.

Uber also has four riding options: economy, premium, accessibility and carpool, where a few strangers can share the fare and ride together. The price includes the driver’s tip and can vary depending on the time of day and distance of the trip. Rides can be booked online or on the app.

Taxi services are easily accessible in big cities and abroad, but often require a call ahead in more rural areas. Taxi services overseas are usually a great way to travel within the city, but at a cost.

Overall, Lyft and Uber rides have proved to be convenient, affordable and honest within cities and for domestic travel. Both allow the rider to get in and out of the vehicle without opening their wallet. The app allows passengers to pay and tip after the ride with a card or account connected to the app.

Taxi services boast safer drivers and transport, but any rider should be aware and alert while traveling.
