Cork isn’t exactly on the map when it comes to desirable places to visit in the world, especially when trying to compete with Dublin, but the food revolution going on here might just change that. These are five restaurants that make the trip to Cork worthwhile.
Café Paradiso
In a country known for its meat and potato diet, it might seem astonishing one of Cork’s most highly praised restaurants is vegetarian. That’s right, Café Paradiso is a vegan’s delight and somehow manages to create flavors better than anything you’ll find on a steak or burger.
Franciscan Well Brewery
Franciscan Well Brewery was once the site of a 1219 Franciscan Monastary, but now it’s home to one of the city’s most beloved breweries and beer gardens. Sample the food here while downing some pretty darn good hops.
Orso
If you’re looking for delicious, traditional Irish food there’s no better place to be than Orso. Everything from their scallops to their Irish coffee is spot on, evidenced by how hard it can be to get a table here during the night.
The Fish Wife
You can’t visit Ireland without sampling some fish and chips, and where else would you go in Cork than The Fish Wife? It’s easy to find: Just look for the bright blue-colored building, and even if you’re not a fan of fish, the burgers here are exemplary, too.
The Oliver Plunkett
If you’re looking for upscale dining, you won’t find it here. Instead, they serve up simple yet delectable meals with an exciting atmosphere that both tourists and locals love. It’s worth it just to see the live Irish band in full swing and sing along.
