History

China is one of the world’s largest and storied countries, with more to see and do than you could possibly fit into one trip. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try anyway. For those looking to be enveloped in the history of this ancient world, we recommend 10 Days Along the Great Silk Road.

The trip, offered by China Odyssey Tours, takes you through a 10-day exploration of the trade route that linked Xian to the Roman Empire as far back as the 2nd Century BC.

You’ll start your trip arriving by plane to Xian where, after a meeting with your guide, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the sites before the coming days. The real adventure starts on your second day there, where you’ll take a trip to the famous Terracotta Warriors and the Ancient City Walls.

From there you’ll continue west towards Dunhuang-Turpan and the Mogao Caves, then onward to the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves and the Flaming Mountains. Other prominent sites on your journey include Jiahoe Ruins, a natural fortress in the Yarnaz Valley and the Heavenly Lake.

Your tour ends in the city of Urumqi in Northwest China, where you’ll have your final day to explore all the region has to offer to yourself.

The tour is offered year-round and prices vary by season. It’s possibly the perfect trip for those interested in Chinese history.
