In December 2015, several prominent London chefs predicted 2016 would be the year of American food’s popularity in London. So far, this prediction seems to be holding up, as several American-style food joints are gaining popularity. What exactly does “American food” look like to England natives? Let’s find out,
- Rox Burger – Rated the U.K.’s No. 1 burger, this American-inspired eatery is exactly what you’d imagine: bacon cheeseburgers, signature fries and Kit Kat milkshakes.
- Steak & Co. – Steak, butter, spare ribs, mac and cheese and more steak. Fans of American homestyle barbecue cuisine will not be disappointed.
- Gourmet Burger Kitchen – Like Rox Burger, this popular burger place serves up milkshakes, burgers and fries. This one even has a Bourbon Street Burger with sriracha and Cajun spices inspired by the famous street in New Orleans.
- Bodean’s BBQ – Outside of the United States, it can be hard to find quality BBQ. This London restaurant, however, embraces Southern-style cooking like baby back ribs, nachos, burgers and BLTs.
In the eyes of London’s best chefs, American food is meaty, hearty and probably covered in barbecue sauce. It is true this reputation is warranted, as Americans eat more meat per capita than anywhere else. In London, it seems this is catching on as a popular trend, and it does not look like the love for hearty American food is on its way out.
