Just more than three blocks from the Lombard-South SEPTA subway stop, on Philadelphia’s vibrant South Street, are the famous Magic Gardens. These gardens do not have to be watered, and they are not rooted in any soil. Rather, they are made of found glass and garbage, recycled and reused to make a series of beautiful mosaics. Situated in an alleyway between two buildings, the gardens become a Labyrinth to all who enter.
Not only is the Magic Gardens a piece of artwork in and of itself, but it also is a venue for other local artists to feature their exhibitions.
Visitors have the ability to rent the location for events like work parties and even weddings; however, prices may vary depending on the date and proximity to holidays.
Twilight In The Gardens
Once a month, PGM hosts a nighttime event where they feature different live musical experiences and art performances. Directions explicitly state, “Bring your own booze and blanket.”
Outdoor Workshops
The PGM Organization also offers monthly mosaic workshops with award-winning artist and creator of the Magic Gardens Isaiah Zagar. Participants learn the art of cutting and forming murals with glass on the walls of local shops and residences.
