Following the thawing of relations between Cuba and the United States, the former is set for a boom in tourism and trade.
Depending on the pace at which agreements are signed, the country could be about to change incredibly fast indeed. There has never been a better time to make like Obama and get to Cuba before the crowds.
Explore the timeless streets of Havana, soaking up the life and the omnipresent salsa rhythms. Rattle around in some of the classic taxis, which are usually old American-built classics from before the trade embargo was imposed in 1960.
Outside of the main cities Havana and Santiago, the ecosystem has been well preserved by the Law 81 conservation plan put in place by Fidel Castro in 1992. The pristine landscapes of the tobacco and sugar plantations could soon be scarred by high-rise developments if Law 81 is struck down.
Although the number of American tourists has already surged this year, this will only increase further the easier it gets for U.S. residents to get a visa. Another good strategy is to get away from the main cities and stick to the interior of the country.
There are lots of charming little villages dotted around. Be aware that if you are looking for thrills, you might be better off elsewhere. This is village life at its sleepy best.
There is plenty to see and do in Cuba, so do so now before it changes too fast.
