Food & Drink

The Lazy Lizard sits at the famous Split in the middle of Belize’s paradisiacal Caye Caulker. The Split was formed by Hurricane Hattie in 1961 before a combination of dredging and tidal flows eroded it to its current width, and the Lazy Lizard Bar is perched right on the edge of the sea.

Enjoy beers, milkshakes or a Lizard Juice, the bar’s sweet and icy yet surprisingly potent signature drink, which will catch up with unwary drinkers over the course of a lazy day spent lounging under the Belizean sun.

Many people take on the challenge of swimming across the Split, although it gets exponentially harder if the tide is coming in, and harder still if you have indulged in a few too many drinks. Don’t worry though, if your front crawl isn’t quite up to scratch you can only be swept out as far as the coral reefs around a hundred meters away, where you can stand and catch your breath as you admire the Lazy Lizard from afar.

Take in the sunset as you sip on a few last cocktails before heading back to your hostel for a well-deserved rest or continue to party into the night to the raucous dancehall beats.
