The fascinating Northern Lights phenomenon is celebrated in Sweden next year with the first Aurora Festival, scheduled to take place Jan. 15–17, 2016.
Northern Lights experts Off the Map Travel, launched the festival to showcase the region’s mesmerizing night sky display and Arctic life in Björkliden, an Arctic area of Swedish Lapland known for exceptional Aurora Borealis viewing.
Participants will have the chance to learn from travel and science experts from the United Kingdom and across Europe on subjects such as space weather, the source of the Northern Lights and traditional Sami food and culture, as well as enjoy the spectacular light show at night.
“This is the most comprehensive program of activities, the largest group of experts gathered and the most engaging and informative Aurora Borealis travel opportunity we have ever created for guests,” said Jonny Cooper, director, Off the Map Travel. “The Aurora Festival is offering something different to those looking to travel on a Northern Lights vacation, letting them learn and understand more about science, life and culture under the Northern Lights while, weather permitting, experiencing firsthand the beauty of the Aurora.”
A three-day, two-night Aurora Festival deal in Björkliden, Northern Sweden, with Off the Map Travel is priced from $1,382, including all meals, 4-star accommodations, a welcome reception, expert talks from world-class speakers, an excursion to Sweden’s highest mountain lodge, an Aurora Borealis photography course and an Arctic and Sami experience at a remote Arctic Aurora camp.
