The northernmost beach on the chain of islands that is the Outer Banks is a paradise tucked away from the busier southern beaches. The family-friendly beach town on North Carolina´s coast is not only peaceful and calm, but it is also an affordable retreat that will make vacationers feel like they live in an exclusive and luxurious locale.
Start your day with a bagel and coffee at Lighthouse Bagels in the shopping center across from TimBuck II. After breakfast, wander through the outdoor shops across the street at TimBuck II shopping center. Whether you browse Yankee candles and homemade products at the Cotton Gin or sample some fudge at The Fudgery, hours can be spent at this charming and compact shopping mecca.
Those who aren´t up for shopping can visit the Currituck lighthouse and Whalehead Club, both of which are set on a picturesque property.
Afternoons in Corolla should be spent on the beach. Miles of sandy beaches are calm enough to leisurely body surf through the waves or nap on the comfortable sand dunes. Adventure seekers can hire a four-wheel drive vehicle and head up to the beach access point in Corova. If you´re lucky, you may spot some wild horses that call the nature reserve their home.
As the sun sets over the Currituck Sound, enjoy a reasonably priced dinner at Agave, a colorful Mexican restaurant located near the shopping centers.
Corolla may be one of the more difficult beaches to access in the Outer Banks, but once you arrive you´ll understand why many vacationers make the trek to the remote beach town.
