Breakfast is ready and waiting for less than $5 at Antipodean Café, which has two locations in Kuala Lumpur. The café invites both locals and visitors to order a hearty breakfast from the blackboard menu, then linger to chat and make friends with their fellow diners. You can choose a more traditional breakfast, such as the croissant sandwich, or choose one of the house originals, like the pumpkin and bacon corn fritters. All the baked goods are made from time-tested recipes.
For about $20, you can visit Petronas Twin Towers, where you can walk across the sky bridge to admire the view of Kuala Lumpur from almost 600 feet above the streets. The observation deck is twice as high and allows an even greater view of the city.
Experience authentic Japanese cuisine with lunch at Fukuya, where you can find the best seasonal ingredients flown in from Japan and prepared using traditional methods. Their super-affordable lunch option is less than $10 and brings you a feast of food, including an entrée, appetizer, salad, egg custard, miso soup, rice, pickles and a dessert.
Visit KL Bird Park at Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens, only a short distance from the middle of the city, but seemingly worlds away with its lush plant life and sprawling green space. The park is home to the world’s largest walk-in free-flight aviary, where guests can observe and interact with a variety of both local and foreign species.
Grab dinner at Bijan, a bar and restaurant where you can find modern Malay cuisine. Most of the entrees are between $10 and $20, and all feature traditional flavors with an updated kick. Try the fire-roasted leg of lamb or deep-fried duck breast, then end your evening with one of the restaurant’s desserts — homemade durian ice cream.
