Under $100: Nice, France

Stop by Emilie’s for breakfast on the go, or stop and sit for a while in the vintage-y cute storefront. Coffee, pastries, smoothies, milkshakes, salads, bagels and more are offered in a variety of flavors and combos. Almost everything on the menu is under €8.

Nice Tourism offers a French Riviera Pass that allows free entrance into a variety of museums, attractions and monuments in and around Nice. The 24-hour pass is €26 and comes with access to 43 different attractions, far too many to see in a day, so you’ll have to pick and choose how to spend your time.

There are several all-encompassing tours you can take advantage of using your French Riviera Pass. One is a tour of Old Town, where you’ll find plenty of history, French restaurants, shops and the Cours Saleya market. Another is a Segway tour that begins on the celebrated Promenade des Anglais along the Mediterranean.

For lunch or dinner with a gorgeous waterfront view, visit Place Beau Rivage. The entrees range between €15–30 and include a variety of Mediterranean cuisine, from pasta and fish to duck and veal. If the normal waterside dining area isn’t to your liking, you can also choose to dine on their private beach or in the outdoor lounge.

For sweeping views of the city and bay, take a climb up Castle Hill. If you don’t want to make the hike, there’s also a lift that will take you about three-quarters of the way to the top. You’ll find a few historical and archaeological sites there as well, including the ruins of Chateau de Nice, Tour Belanda and the cemetery.

At La Rossettisserie, dine on freshly prepared roast veal and ratatouille either at the checkered tablecloth-clad street seating or in the restaurant’s historic and romantic vaulted cellar. Entrees with a side are only €14.5.

For 94 flavors of authentic gelato, make a trip to the family-run Fenocchio, where you can get three scoops for €5 and satisfy your sweet tooth until midnight.
