Are you ready to plan your honeymoon?
Before you book any tickets, ask yourselves these five questions. They’ll help map out your choices and make the planning processes easier.
1. What do we want to get out of this?
If you and your sweetheart want to start your newlywed life with a big adventure, go ahead and plan a backpacking trek through Nepal or a cruise around the coast of Alaska. But if you just want to relax together, skip the elaborate trip and spend a few days at a B&B instead.
2. What’s our budget?
Figure out your budget before you start planning. Your options for where to go and how long to stay will be different if you’re working with $500 versus $5,000.
3. What sort of vacations do we enjoy?
Don’t plan a trip to Italy because everyone says it’s romantic or a Caribbean getaway because that’s what your sister did. Think about what your ideal vacation would be, not just what you think a honeymoon should involve. It will be easier to come up with ideas that will make you both happy.
4. How much time do we have?
If you can only take four days off work, don’t spend half of them traveling! A short amount of time for your honeymoon means you should pick somewhere close to home. If you have a couple weeks available, then you can consider country hopping around Europe.
5. Do we even like to travel?
Just because other people take a honeymoon trip doesn’t mean you have to. If you find travel stressful and anxiety-inducing, don’t start your marriage that way. Instead, plan a staycation in your own city, with plenty of unplugged time to relax together.
