The Amalfi Coast has long been known for its beautiful, saturated colors, kind locals and quick access to unparalleled nature. While most visitors take a bus or car on the winding Amalfi Coast highway to get from one village to the next, try hiking the Trail of the Gods (Sentiero Degli Dei in Italian) to see the region in a different light from high up.
The trail, while labeled with directions, is not for the faint of heart and you will want to pack sturdy, supportive shoes, a water bottle and small snacks for the treks between villages. Start in Bomerano, which can be reached by taking a public bus from Amalfi’s main center (the sign on the bus will say Agerola), and make your way through the towns of Furoe, Nocelle, Montepertuso and finally to Positano. Starting at Bomerano allows you to walk downhill most of the way; the hike can also be started from Praiano, but it is much more difficult. The hike allows beautiful vistas of Capri and the blue-green water of the Bay of Naples and takes about five hours.
There is also the option to the take the bus from Nocelle to Positano to save yourself a downhill albeit beautiful walk. Finish your journey with an espresso or aperol cocktail in Positano’s main square.
