A road trip through wine country can be the perfect getaway for a romantic couple’s retreat, bachelorette party or girls-only vacation. There are two different routes that are the most popular for visitors — Highway 29 and Silverado Trail. Highway 29 can be a bit more crowded; however, so if you’d like to avoid the tourists, stick to Silverado Trail, where you can still enjoy the same Napa Valley experience. Both run north-south through Napa County and will show you many of the same picturesque wine country scenes and great big-name and local wineries that you expect.
Highway 29 runs from Napa to Calistoga, and is where you’ll find all of the brands you already know and love — think Charles Krug or Cakebread and many, many others. If you take this route, you also want to be sure that you stop by Castello di Amorosa. The castle and winery were built in the 13th century Tuscan style, and entrance to the grounds and a tasting is only $25.
Silverado Trail is pretty much parallel to Highway 29 and only a few miles away. You’ll find plenty of scenic stops and can enjoy a much more relaxed pace than what you’d find on Highway 29. Check out Mumm Napa, Rutherford Hill or Stag’s Leap.
For the ultimate luxury to make your trip to wine country even more memorable, book a stay at Solage Calistoga or Calistoga Ranch.
