Located in the western part of Hangzhou, China, Xixi National Wetland Park is the first of its kind in China. The network of rivers, ponds, lakes, swamps and dry land open to the public currently covers more than seven miles — the area will undergo a three-phase reconstruction. The deepest parts of the waterways are almost seven feet deep. It would take one–two days to walk the entire park.

Xixi Park is home to more than 1,000 types of trees including bamboo and mulberry. There are more than 7,000 persimmon trees alone. Popular wildlife includes egret, geese, mallards and the silver pheasant. Carp, eels and crabs are among the most common aquatic animals. Be sure to take a boat ride during your visit for an up-close look at the plants and wildlife.

In addition to the beautiful natural surroundings, Xixi Park offers cultural sightseeing options. The Misty Fishing Village features display houses, detailing what life was like for villagers living in this area of Hangzhou, hundreds of years ago. Check out the silk demonstration, complete with live silk worms at work. The park also hosts an annual Dragon Boat Race.
Xixi National Wetland Park is open year-round, with shorter hours in the winter months. Admission is about $12 for adults.
