So you’re thinking of hosting your very own St. Patrick’s Day party? Beyond the obvious requirements (plenty of booze), be sure to stock up on some appropriate Irish fare to feed your hungry guests.
You can go one of two ways with such an endeavor — all-out green or actual authentic Irish foods. If you decide to go the green route, you may want to stick with an array of snacks and desserts. Think homemade shamrock shakes (easier than you think!), green velvet cake and shamrock-shaped cookies, alongside mostly-green appetizers that tend to be a hit with most every guest at any party, such as spinach dip, stuffed jalapenos and a veggie tray (green bell peppers, edamame, cucumbers, etc.).
If you’d rather go the more traditional route, give your dishes a modern, more party-friendly twist. After all, you probably won’t want to spend all day cooking up corned beef and cabbage your guests may or may not be thrilled with. A good amount of Guinness can turn any recipe Irish, from a Guinness chocolate cake to Guinness cheese spread.
If all else fails and you’re a disaster in the kitchen, pick up some cupcakes with green frosting or a leprechaun cake and call it a day. By the time your guests get around to dessert, they may just be too intoxicated to notice.
