Don’t miss out on the best street food this great nation has to offer! Try one of these local favorites the next time you’re on the road.
BBQ
Barbecue doesn’t get any better than in Texas, and John Mueller Meat Co. has been called some of the best. The barbecue trailer offers plenty of picnic-style seating.
Donuts
Another Texas favorite, stop by Gourdough’s in Austin for crazy-good doughnuts served out of an Airstream. The menu is filled with sugar-rish-inducing options alongside more creative choices, such as the Porkey’s, which comes with Canadian bacon, cream cheese and jalapeno jelly.
Tacos
To feed your taco cravings, head to Los Angeles. You’ll find lots of places to choose from, but Guerrilla Tacos has received rave reviews. The menu changes daily, so be sure to check out their website or social media for an idea of what you’ll find. You can be sure, though, every item is filled with local ingredients.
Waffles
Waffles might not be the first thing you think of when you think street food, but your mind will be forever changed when you try out Wafels and Dinges in New York City. Choose between a classic Brussels waffle and the “liège” waffle, which is softer and chewier than its counterpart. Then, pick your sweet “dinges,” or toppings. You can also go for a savory waffle like their BBQ pulled pork waffle or chili con carne waffle.
Hot Dogs
Hot dogs are an American staple, but Swizzler Gourmet Hot Dogs in Washington, D.C., kicked this classic up more than just a notch. A few college students threw together the venture to earn some cash to travel to Rio, and a successful business was born. Grass-fed dogs are topped with everything from pesto to fried pickles to balsamic glaze.
Pizza
Streetza supports Milwaukee’s local food scene a step further by using local ingredients on their pizzas, which are baked on-site. With more than 300 pizza varieties, there’s always something different on the menu, but some of the favorites include the s’mores pizza, crab legs pizza and corndog pizza.
