Primavera Sound Barcelona has been bringing indie rock groups and alternative music fans to the beautiful Spanish city each spring since 2001. Founded by Pablo Soler, Primavera Sound has grown exponentially since its first iteration. Attracting 8,000 fans and 19 artists in April 2001, the event has broken records with more than 100,000 fans in attendance at the new venue in 2011, Parc del Forum, facing the Mediterranean.
From June 2–4, music genres vary from folk, metal, jazz, hip-hop, pop, electronic and indie, a significant evolution since its conception as an indie rock venue. The festival offers local, unknown talent exposure as well as showcases some of the better-established artists in the area.
Spain’s indie music scene offers quite an eclectic lineup and bleeds into the culture, making for some amazing fans and activities at the festival. American tourists may not recognize some of the music, but the venue, weather and location make for an unforgettable experience.
Most recently, headliners such as Arcade Fire, Kendrick Lamar, Pixies, The National and Volcano graced some of the eight main stages. The festival continues to grow and evolve into an international affair.
Springtime in Barcelona is the perfect time to visit, see the city, culture and hear some music along with 100,000 die-hard Spanish music fans.
