Destinations / Europe

Planning a late-summer vacation to Europe but really want to avoid the crowds you might find in destinations like Rome or Paris? F&P Travel has a few suggestions for low-crowd summer destinations where you can enjoy exploring among fewer fellow tourists.

Sweden’s Northern Archipelago

Just a short drive out of Stockholm, leave the crowds and enjoy vast landscapes all to yourself. Kayak across the waters, explore the wilderness and enjoy sea views. The best place to stay while is Furusund Island, a historic vacation destination.

Île de Yeu, France

This island off the western coast of France is a hidden gem that’s relatively small, but with everything you need for a romantic island getaway. Slow down and enjoy beaches, bike routes and historic sites.

Méribel, in the French Alps

While this destination might be more so known as a winter ski destination, it’s worth your consideration in the summer, too. Also in France, Méribel offers an alpine getaway, but at a slightly lower cost than what you may find elsewhere. There’s plenty of opportunity for outdoor adventure, whether you prefer hiking, mountain biking, golf or swimming. You can rent a chalet for a more private getaway.
