Destinations / North America

Planning a trip to New York to catch fall foliage? You still have a chance to check out the colorful leaves before they’re gone. Some of the best places to do so include:

The Adirondacks

In the north-central part of the state, the Adirondacks welcome with plenty of quaint small towns and villages set against rugged and remote mountaintops. Go for a hike (there are plenty of options for both the novice and the expert) and set up camp at luxurious Whiteface Lodge, set in Lake Placid and within walking distance of shopping, dining and the waterfront, and also within easy driving distance of many hikes.

The Hudson River Valley

For something a little closer to New York City, try the Hudson River Valley. A top spot is Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow (yes, that Sleepy Hollow). It’s the perfect spooky destination for a pre-Halloween getaway. The nearby hikes are easy, but still provide plenty of fall views. Try Rockefeller State Park Preserve for multiple trail options.

Canandaigua

For something nearer the Finger Lakes, try Canandaigua. Hike around the lakes or get out on Canandaigua Lake itself. When you’re ready to rest, try The Lake House on Canandaigua and its stellar setting.
