If you’ve already visited Washington, D.C., and seen the top sites, you may think there’s no reason to make a return trip, but you would be sorely mistaken. Here are four reasons to visit Washington, D.C. soon.
1- 2020 is a big anniversary year, especially for women’s rights.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote in 1920. A lot of cities around the country are celebrating in their own ways, but where better to celebrate than the country’s capital? Check out the women’s suffrage exhibit now available virtually at the National Museum of American History.
2- New and updated hotels offer a better way to stay.
Washington, D.C., has, over the last few years, seen an influx in new hotels and restaurants, as well as older hotels receiving updates. One to check out is Dupont Circle Hotel, which just completed a huge renovation and added a new restaurant and bar. Stop by The Pembroke for dover sole or roasted duck magret.
3- New attractions on the National Mall…
One new attraction on the National Mall set to debut in September is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial. Designed by Frank Gehry, it promises to be artistically stunning. The memorial has been in the works since the 1990s and is surrounded by a small park.
4- …and away from the National Mall.
Off the National Mall, visitors will definitely want to check out RiverPoint, a new, huge waterfront development with luxury apartments, shops and restaurants, including a food hall created by James Beard award winner Spike Gjerde.
