There is a bit of confusion in the general public as to what 4K TVs actually are. Basically, 4K is four times the resolution of a 1080-pixel TV. This means four times as many pixels-per-inch, allowing for greater detail and resolution in a smaller area. It also means images will be sharper and more resolute when increasing image size.
Since the induction, 4K TVs have not had a lot of software to showcase, but the hope is that by the holiday season, both 4K Blu-Ray discs and disc players will be on the market. The prices of 4K discs are expected to be higher than standard Blu-Ray, just as the latter were more expensive than regular DVDs when they first came out.
More 4K content is also expected to come through smart TVs, as well as through services like Netflix on PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. Unfortunately for gamers, the current consoles will not be able to support 4K gaming, despite being able to view videos in that resolution through TV services.
It all sounds expensive right now, but certain brands such as Polaroid have made efforts to make Ultra-HD TVs affordable to the common consumer, with their 50-inch 4K LCD for $999. You can also check out a number of 4k TVs already available on Amazon.
