Cycle Through Vineyards

Take in stunning views of changing leaves on a cycling excursion through Slovenia’s vineyards. Make stops at wineries and farms for a taste of local wine and food. Follow the gourmet or wellness route for suggested stops along the way.

Sample Unique Sparkling Wine

Experience the world’s first sparkling wine untouched by light. This one-of-a-kind wine uses Chardonnay grapes hand-picked on moonless nights. It is then aged using a darkness method and bottled in dark glass wrapped in black foil.

 

Visit the World’s Oldest Grapevine

Head to Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city, and visit the world’s oldest grapevine, Žametovka. At more than 450 years old, this vine produces more than 100 pounds of red grapes annually. Learn more about the vine and its cultural significance to Slovenia at the on-site Old Vine House Museum.

Many wineries throughout the region invite visitors to participate in the grape harvest through educational sessions, hands-on experiences and harvest festivals.

 

Overlook Slovenia’s Vineyards

Enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the vineyards from Slovenia’s observation towers. Gonjače Observation Tower boasts views of vineyards, the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. Tower of Health and Joy on Rudnica Hill is accessible by foot or car. In addition to vineyard views, Vinarium Panoramic Tower offers views of three neighboring countries: Austria, Croatia and Hungary.
