Tips / Travel

You’ve planned your outfits and jewelry for your next trip, but now comes time to actually pack and travel with your jewelry, some of which might be valuable. It leaves you riddled with anxiety when thinking of the risks involved when traveling with expensive pieces.

Jewelers Mutual, a jewelry insurance company, offers tips on how to ease some of your worries when traveling with accessories and jewelry, allowing you to better enjoy your trip and look good while you’re at it.

1.Know When Not to Wear Your Jewelry

It’s true, your valuables are often safest in sight, but there are some activities that might risk loss of your necklace, earrings or ring. Things like swimming and watersports present a greater risk of losing valuable jewelry. Even applying sunscreen makes it easier for that ring to slide off your finger.

  1. Document Jewelry You’re Bringing

Make a visual inventory of the items you plan to bring with you. This comes in handy if you need to file a police report for any reason; proof of ownership goes a long way.

  1. Store Safely at Your Hotel

Don’t ever leave jewelry out in your hotel room, even within your luggage. Ask hotel staff if they have a safe you can use, whether in room or behind the desk. Be sure to travel with a dedicated jewelry case, too, to protect items in transit.

  1. Conceal, Don’t Reveal

If you’re in a particularly dangerous or unknown area, it’s best to conceal expensive jewelry from strangers. Don’t advertise the expensive jewelry you brought with you on social media as it poses a greater threat for you and makes you an easier target.

  1. Pack Smart

Limit what you bring and think about whether bringing jewelry at all is necessary, depending on the trip. If flying, pack them securely in your carry-on bag.

Oldest Rodeo in United States Returns This May

Did you know the oldest rodeo in the United States isn’t out west at all, but rather in New Jersey? Cowtown Rodeo in Pilesgrove, New Jersey, started back in 1929 by Howard “Stoney” Harris Jr. and his father. The event became so popular, it eventually moved to a 4,000-seat arena in 1967, and now fifth-generation owners Katy and RJ Griscom keep the cowboy spirit alive with bucking broncs, fearless bull riders and barrel-racing. In fact, today’s bucking horses descended from legends of the 1970s.
