Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

One of the world’s grandest waterfalls, Iguazu Falls, is located in South America on the border between Argentina and Brazil. The cataract falls are a sight to see and boast nearly 2,000 cubed meters of water gushing every second.

South America is not limited to only Iguazu Falls in terms of its availability, and fans of nature should make an effort to check out these waterfalls if they can.

The Kaieteur Falls in Guyana is another stop to make. If you’re measuring by volume of water over a single drop, these falls take the cake as the biggest in the world, pumping out water at 23,400 cubed meters of water every second over the edge. The waterfall is about four times the height of the Niagara Falls, at 741 feet.

Taking a quick journey down to Peru will allow travelers to see the Yumbilla Falls. These falls are considered the fifth-tallest waterfall in the world, coming in at 2,940 feet. There are two other waterfalls in the vicinity. Intrepid travelers can get a lot of waterfall viewing in in a short time.

If you are looking to see a waterfall without leaving civilization for too long, you can do so by visiting Laja Falls in Chile. The falls are near commercialized areas and the cities of Los Ángeles and Chillán.

Garganta del Diablo, or Devil’s Throat, is another awe-inspiring waterfall. This one is actually part of Iguazu Falls and represents the most concentrated flow of water at the iconic falls site. The flow from the Devil’s Throat represents the highest point of flow from Iguazu Falls.

The biggest and most inspiring sight when talking South American waterfalls has to be Iguazu Falls. Iguazu National Park offers many great places to view the falls while getting in a good workout by way of walking.

These five waterfalls and waterfall complexes are just the beginning of the falls available in South America, and enthusiasts should enjoy discovering them all.
