Oenophiles rejoice! You can now save that leftover bottle with the Wine Condom, the giggle-inducing bottle stopper.
Laura Bartlett conceived the idea when, upon losing the cork for her unfinished bottle of wine, she placed a rubber band and plastic wrap around the top to save it for later. Her son, Mitchell Strahan, joked it looked like a condom, and thus the idea was born.
They took their idea to Kickstarter in January 2014 and received a great deal of initial support, just surpassing their goal of $7,500 to bring it to market. Utilizing a hands-on approach to their marketing, the team personally reached out to interested customers and distributors on their Facebook page, eventually getting support from wine platforms around the world.
The stoppers are made from 100 percent rubber, and they work exactly how you’re imagining they would, with their website saying, “You can put them on yourself or get your partner to help you.” The packaging resembles your typical condom wrapper, so keep them in separate compartment to avoid some potential embarrassment or pain.
On a more serious note, these stoppers aren’t meant for Champagne, as the bubbles will make it balloon. Wine Condoms come in packs of six, and are available directly through their website.
