We’ve all had to sacrifice that extra pair of shoes in order to make sure our suitcase zipper closes, but now Shooz has come up with an ingenious way to pack multiple pairs of shoes in minimal space.
After a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign, Shooz is set to bring its modular shoe system to life. Aimed at travelers who can’t decide which shoes to take with them, the patented modular system lets you customize your footwear using different combinations of what the company calls “skins” and “soles.”
The two parts of the shoe are joined by a zip, and the outer “skins” pack down flat when not in use. Flat-pack shoes offer obvious advantages in terms of saving space and weight in your pack, and the designs are on trend. In fact when you have the shoes on your feet, it is hard to tell they are not just a normal pair of sneakers.
Shooz offers four soles and 26 skins you can combine in any way you like, ranging from running shoes to brogues. Given that each pair of skins takes up the same amount of space as a folded t-shirt, you’ll be able to pack enough shoes to be comfortable in any situation. Each pack of skins costs $75 and is machine washable for easy cleaning.
During the recent Kickstarter campaign, a skin+sole pack was on offer for $131. Shooz are not cheap, but they could be perfect for those who love to take lots of shoes on their travels.
