Puget Sound is a stunning place: Islands offer views of two mountain ranges on the mainland, and charming small towns are home to art galleries and top-notch restaurants.

 

There are tons of options for getaways on these islands, most of which also involve a ferry ride from the mainland — a scenic way to get where you’re going.

Vashon Island

Vashon Island, within easy reach of Seattle, is where you can explore beaches and tide pools, visit the lighthouse, shop at the farmers market for a picnic and enjoy views of Mount Rainier’s glaciated volcano.

Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island is where you can sip wine and visit the art museum, plus explore the gorgeous Bloedel Reserve Botanical Gardens.

Whidbey Island, the longest in the area, offers several options for charming small town experiences, whale watching, kayaking, hiking along windswept beaches and bluffs and a lovely lavender farm.

Camano Island is mostly residential and easy to get to, as it doesn’t require a ferry ride. The relaxing island has great spots to kayak or sail, and a great restaurant at the Camano Island Inn.

Blake Island, which is protected as a state park, can be accessed by private boat or on a cruise by Argosy, which also involves a traditional salmon bake.
