The recent hacking of celebrity photos from their personal cellphone data and stored Cloud memory is leading people to take extra precautions with their personal phone data, contacts and photos when traveling. Last year, among the 29 million Americans traveling abroad, roaming fees were a top concern; now, it’s unsecure connections and cyber criminals.
According to Cellhire USA, the only surefire way for travelers to prevent having personal cellphone data transferred and viewed is to leave the smartphone at home. Seems impossible, right? But it may just be the only way to ensure private data and photos remain private.
“Essentially, we urge travelers to leave their personal smartphone at home. This doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your contacts and personal info, it just means you rent or purchase a “travel phone” and only use a secure network. Using public WiFi is a recipe for disaster,” said Greg Kraynak, CEO, Cellhire, USA. “When you access personal data, social media, bank accounts, photos, etc., on a public platform then you are basically offering your data to be intercepted by cyber criminals. If major celebrities with multi-million dollar bank accounts are hacked, if shows you how vulnerable we are.”
Consider your options before your next trip and protect your cyber data.
