The London suburb of New Malden has become known as Little Korea, thanks to its 20,000 strong Korean population, and the area is home to some of the finest restaurants in the British capital.
Top of the list is Jin Go Gae, a family-run establishment that offers Korean BBQ, hot-pot soups and a wide array of bar snacks. Consistently voted a favorite by locals, it’s definitely worth the trip.
Down the road on New Malden high street is Sorabol, which serves up bibimbap and japache in a sophisticated restaurant. On the same street, there are tens of establishments offering Korean food, but few do it as well as Yami, a mixed Korean-Japanese restaurant that never fails to impress.
For fans of interior design and good food, the top choice has to be Han, where each table is elevated in its own booth fashioned from 200-year-old wood. The food is great, and there is even a hidden secret: The basement houses private karaoke rooms you can rent by the hour.
If singing your heart out after dinner isn’t your thing, maybe the understated styling of Kimchi Village will be more suitable. This informal diner offers unlimited meat and sides for a set price, and is becoming increasingly popular after opening in early 2017.
Whether you are looking for a quick bite to eat or a lavish meal followed by cocktails and karaoke, Little Korea has you covered. It might be a 30-minute train ride from the center of London, but you won’t regret making the journey.
