With so many archaeological sites in Greece to choose from, it can be hard to pick the best ones to visit. Check out the following list of must-see sites that should make it on everyone’s Greek vacation bucket list.

Delphi
Considered by the ancient Greeks to be the center of the world, the site of Delphi was once home to an oracle that told fortunes. Situated high on a mountainside, this enormous archaeological site is home to some of the most well-preserved ruins in the country, including the impressive temple of Apollo.

Olympia
The home of the ancient Olympics, this massive site is one of the largest and well-preserved of its kind. Visitors should plan on spending plenty of time exploring the peaceful grounds, which include an expansive track where foot races once took place.

The Ancient Theater of Epidaurus
Pronounced Epidavros in Greek, this outdoor theater was built with an incredible acoustic design guaranteeing every seat in the theater has perfect sound. It’s this algebraic technology that allowed ancient Greek performers to entertain full houses without the use of microphones. The theater is situated in a beautiful stretch of countryside on the Peleponese peninsula, not far from the point where Helen of Troy was believed to be abducted.

Knossos
The ruins of the ancient palace of Knossos make a trip to the distant Greek island of Crete well-worth the effort. This site was once the center of the Minoan Empire and today gives visitors an opportunity to see the well-preserved architecture and incredible artwork of the ancient Minoans.

The Acropolis
Modern Athens radiates from this temple of Athena standing high above the city. Possibly the most-trafficked site in the world, the Acropolis is home to several well-preserved structures and an impressive museum that displays most of the artifacts found at the site.
