Tips for Saving Money on Airport Food

Tips / Budget

The best way to save money on food at the airport is to bring your own. While this is currently one of your only options, once airports are back up and running normally following the COVID-19 pandemic, we realize bringing your own food might not always be a viable option. So here are some tips to keep a little cash in your pocket next time you’re waiting on a change of flights.

Hit the convenience stores. Airport restaurants are notoriously overpriced. Instead, slip into a CVS or equivalent for a fill-up. The food is still pricier than what you’d normally pay, but less than fast food or sit-down. You also won’t have to wait for it to be cooked when you’re in a hurry.

Skip the water. Travelers really need to stop buying water at the airport. Not only can you typically get it free on the airplane, but there are fountains all over. Why drop $4 on a bottle of something you can get for free 10 feet away?

Scale back on that burger. We all have our staples when chowing down on fast food. But skip the Big Mac and opt for a simple cheeseburger to save money. It’ll still (mostly) fill you up and save you a few bucks at the same time. You also probably don’t need that Coke while you’re at it. In the same vein, don’t try fancy restaurants you’ve never heard of while in an airport — they’re bound to cost more money
