Italy, France, Spain — you could go to any of these destinations’ Mediterranean coasts and find a spectacular glass of wine. However, where do you go more specifically when you have a full region of renowned wine country to explore? Here are a few ideas:
Liguria, Italy, may not be as well-known for its wine as some of Italy’s other wine destinations, but this Italian Riviera hot spot offers a range of wineries and its own region-specific wine, Pigato.
While you can’t go wrong with a trip to Sicily in general, Val di Noto is a favorite spot for tasting an array of wines while also exploring rustic villages and sandy beaches.
If you’re relatively new to the world of wine, you may not have experienced the range of Cypriot wines coming from this small Mediterranean island, but a trip to Paphos will quickly cure that. Combine wine tours with historical and cultural activities, as well as soaking up the sun on Cyprus beaches.
On France’s southeastern border near Spain, Languedoc sits as the country’s largest organic wine hub. A well-known wine-o destination, it’s definitely a must for your travel bucket list if you have your heart set on a French vacay.
If you’re looking to get out of Europe and experience Mediterranean wine beyond the continent, consider a trip to Lebanon. While not as well-known of a wine-producing country as some of its neighbors to the west, Lebanon boasts a millennia-long history of wine production and continues to see a growing wine tourism industry.
