Celebrate Texas Independence Day on the exact spot where Texas became Texas. The annual two-day celebration takes place Saturday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, March 1, at the Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site park grounds — the exact site where delegates met in 1836 to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico. This year marks the 179th anniversary.
Step back in time and experience what life was like in 1836 Texas. Check out the following presentations: Visit with reenactors; watch cooking, firing, weaving and period craft demonstrations; and walk the same trail taken by Texan pioneers. Live music attractions occur throughout the weekend, including performances by the Lone Star String Band and the Great American Medicine Show featuring Professor Farquar’s tall tales and songs from the 19th century.
During the celebratory weekend, admission/tour fees are waived at the Star of the Republic Museum, Independence Hall and Barrington Living History Farm. The attractions will feature special activities to celebrate Texas Independence Day. Admission to the grounds and parking is also free.
