Alice’s Teacup, a whimsical teahouse, offers a fairy-tale-themed dining experience both children and adults can enjoy. Loosely based on Lewis Carroll’sAlice in Wonderland, this chain of Manhattan tearooms promises a tea even the Mad Hatter would enjoy.

Chapter 1, the tea room’s first location, is 102 West 73rd St., between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenue. There are two additional locations — Chapter II on East 64th Street and Chapter III on East 81st Street. All the tearooms share a similar ambiance and décor, but still hold their own charm.

Alice’s Teacup is notable, not only for its eclectic design, but for its colorful menu. Each location has slightly different offerings, but all three focus on desserts, scones and light lunch options. As with any English tea, scones play a prominent role. Alice’s offers daily specials as well as inventive flavors and vegan options. Try a pot of tea and two scones, served with preserves and cream for $12 from the all-day menu.

For a full teatime experience, order the The Mad Hatter “tea for two” for $45. Alice’s Teacup is strict on sharing plates; thus, this “tea for two” is actually limited to two people. The Mad Hatter includes two sandwiches, two scones with preserves and cream, assorted cookies with choice of mocha cake, lemon tart, or chocolate mousse and a pot of tea. For larger groups, Alice’s also takes reservations and offers custom birthday, un-birthday and wedding cakes.

Alice’s Teacup pours a special selection of teas to please any palate. Their signature, Alice’s Tea, is a smooth blend of Indian black tea, Japanese green tea, vanilla and rose petals. For a more adventurous beverage, sample the caffeine-free Mulling Spice Tea — a combination of orange, cinnamon, cloves and fennel.

Be sure to pop in for a visit, Alice’s Teacup is a fun and memorable dining experience with all the charm of Wonderland.

Are You Ready for the Final Switch to Real ID?

Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
