Salem, Mass., is steeped in tales of the macabre and is a favorite spot for history and horror buffs alike. To get an immersive sense of what it was like to live through the Salem Witch Trials consider jumping onboard a Salem Witch City Day Trip.
The tour begins with a pickup by coach from your hotel in Boston. From there, you’ll make the 40-mile journey to Salem with a couple stops on the way. Your driver will take you to the seaside city of Marblehead, where the American Navy first set sail.
Once you reach your final destination you’ll be given a carriage tour of the city and see where many of the famous Salem Witch Trials took place. You’ll also explore the home of Nathaniel Hawthorne, author of The Scarlet Letter, along with the House of Seven Gables.
Once left to your own devices, you’ll be free to browse along the historical sidewalks and take in the pre-modern era homes lining the streets. The town is known for its fascination with Halloween, so expect to see plenty of fun horror-themed shops, events and haunted houses along the way.
Make sure you take the time to stop by the Salem Witch Museum to get the full historic feel of the horrific events that transpired in this small town.
Tours start at $45 per person.
