You don’t have to be a professional photographer to get great shots on your next adventure. In fact, you don’t even have to have the most expensive gear. There are a few necessities that will help you take professional-quality photos while you’re on the go, with minimal work required.

First off, you’re going to need a tripod. A lot of amateur photographers make the mistake of thinking they can get amazing shots while holding a camera in their hand. This doesn’t typically work, especially if your subject is moving. Placing your camera on a tripod helps steady it and prevent the photo from turning blurry. The Joby GP3 GorillaPod SLR-Zoom Flexible Tripod is a cheap, great choice that is reliable and will fold up enough to fit in your purse.

Sometimes when a great shot comes along, the sun can get in the way. To combat poor lighting you can use a light reflector like the Neewer 110CM 43-Inch 5-in-1 Collapsible Multi-Disc Light Reflector. It comes with five different surfaces to help you manipulate the light around you. You can use it to soften the lighting in bright daylight and create shadows, or you can brighten the light in areas that are too dark.

If you don’t have a DSLR on hand and prefer to take photos with your smartphone, you should consider investing in a camera lens kit. Yes, they make entire kits for your phone. For instance, the CamKix iPhone 5 Camera Lens Kit turns your iPhone into a full-fledged DLSR. They make similar ones for Androids, as well.

Anyone can take great photographs, even if they might not have an eye for it, with a little help from modern-day products. These are just a few starter ideas to help you out, but don’t be afraid to dig around and see what else you can find!
