Albatros Expeditions recently announced plans to operate a fully Halal-certified kitchen in Antarctica in 2026. This will be a first and a milestone in expedition cruising, as an expedition vessel has never before offered such a thing in the land of ice. Rashidah Lim, Southeast Asia business development manager, spearheaded the Halal project; Lim is the polar industry’s only female Muslim expedition leader.
“We are very proud to be the first movers in the Polar Industry to launch a new, exciting expedition adventure,” said Jens Rasmussen, COO and board member, Albatros Group. “We have always been innovative, exploring new products and ideas inspired by our team, partners, and guests. This is an exciting milestone for us to launch the first Halal-certified cruise to Antarctica. Big thanks to the team behind the project, and Rashidah Lim for her great work making this idea a reality.”
Lim also worked closely with other members of the company, including colleagues from marketing, product management and business development.
On the Halal-certified cruise, the Muslim-friendly environment means no pork or alcohol will be served, and guests will not be allowed to bring outside food or beverages on board. There will also be daily ladies-only hours in the onboard sauna.
