Ask any traveler about their preferred accommodation option, and sites like Airbnb and Booking.com are likely to spring from many mouths. As alternative lodging begins to overshadow traditional hotels and motels, such options are left scrambling for guests, which may be an advantage for the traveler.
According to one of the aforementioned sites, Booking.com, travelers in 2016 will be looking for alternative ways to stay, opting for more personalized services but more independent and individualized experiences such as home stays and self-catering choices.
Globetrotters are searching for unique and custom ways to experience their destination. Instead of staying in a cookie-cutter hotel with standard amenities, travelers want a different way of life when on the road in hopes of connecting with their surroundings instead of simply roaming the streets as if the city is an outdoor museum. Along with these desires comes an urge to stay somewhere that feels more like home, contributing to both the local feel and the elements of home.
Both Booking.com and Airbnb feature a range of accommodation options, from shared apartments to private rooms, from entire villas to lofty tree houses. As the vacation experience becomes individualized, so does each traveler´s story.
