On a recent trip to Virginia, my husband and I enjoyed brunch with friends at Ambar Restaurant in Arlington. The restaurant serves Balkan cuisine and offers an unlimited brunch experience.
Our friends dined at the restaurant before and recommended we book an early reservation as the restaurant is popular. This was my first time visiting a Balkan restaurant and I was excited to sample a variety of dishes.
Our group of four was brought right to our table when we arrived. We knew we wanted to try the Ambar Experience, the unlimited brunch. When our waitress came to the table to go over the menu, we immediately gave our food and drink orders. The meal comes at a set price of $39.99, and brunch cocktails cost 25 cents each.
We ordered a lot of small plates to share and they came out quickly. Three of us, including me, ordered Bloody Marys and our friend ordered a peach Bellini. First, the busser brought out bread and spreads, which included pickled vegetables, beet tzatziki and eggplant spread. We ordered each type of slider on the menu, which came one to an order: fried chicken, crispy cheese, mini burger and grilled pork. From the protein section of the menu, we chose the grilled steak, kebab and smoked sausage. We split a smoked sausage flatbread and vegetable flatbread. We added a baked cheese pie and salmon benedict to our order. To include more vegetables, we ordered a kale Caesar and the Balkan salad.
The small plate presentation was perfect for optimizing our brunch experience. We were able to try a good portion of the menu. While I enjoyed the meal overall, there were some standouts: fried chicken slider, kebab, smoked sausage flatbread and spreads platter.
Our waitress and the rest of the wait staff were attentive with bringing and removing dishes, checking on our beverages and seeing if we wanted to add more food. Ambar Restaurant is a must if you’re in the area. The restaurant also has a Washington, D.C., location.
