This often-overlooked form of camping is a great way to get acquainted with nature without getting too down and dirty. RVs are called recreational vehicles for a reason— they allow you to travel long distances and provide the comforts of a home without the hassle of checking into multiple hotels. Still, there are a few important things to remember before RV camping for the first time.
First, be prepared to spend extra on gas. Most RVs are notorious gas guzzlers, many only get between six and 15 miles per gallon. Yet, RV camping can still be cost effective. Not only can it save you hotel bills, but you can also economize by cooking in your mini kitchen or on a grill rather than eating out.
Be mindful of parking. Not all campgrounds allow RVs and those that do often have restrictions about where and how long you can park. Check out RV.org’s online map for state specific regulations. For more in-depth information and campsite reviews, check out this RV camping blog.
Think of RV camping as a cross between renting a cottage and tent camping; enjoy exploring nature while still keeping the comfort of a bed and running water nearby.
