Last month Apple sent a shot heard around the world with its announcement that the iPhone 7 would be nixing the long, ubiquitous 3.5-mm headphone jack, in use for just more than five decades. Replacing it is a wireless connection and a complimentary pair of AirPods, the company’s wireless version of its standard EarPods.

The device pair over a standard Bluetooth connection, though Apple streamlines the process to make the transition as smooth as possible by having a window pop up when the AirPods turn on (other wireless headphones still require navigating the menu). Users will be able to operate Siri by simply double-tapping one of the Pods, and the device will even switch between phones and Macbooks.

For those who prefer their analog cans, Apple will be offering a Lightning adapter with a standard 3.5-mm jack. Several companies are also making their own adapters and Lightning cable headphones, in addition to their own wireless headsets that are Bluetooth ready.

The new iPhone 7, as well as the wireless headphones, will be available for purchase in late October. The AirPods themselves will be priced at $159, on Apple’s website.
