Arlo Hotels recently announced a partnership with London’s Pontone Gallery and artist Chris Rivers to headline the brand’s Living Room Gallery program at Arlo Wynwood during Miami Art Week. The 217-room hotel will showcase a special installation at its third-floor gallery, open to the public. Jasmine Arakel curated Cosmos, the exhibition, which features works that utilize the materiality of paint to create images of otherworldly expanses and environments.
“I’m thrilled to showcase my new exhibition at Arlo Wynwood during Miami Art Week,” said Rivers. “Cosmos is about the things you don’t notice at first and serves as a contrast between innocence and something darker.”
In his work, Rivers often introduces soft light filters through layers of complementary tones that swell with dramatic, saturated color before receding deeper into the image. Upon closer inspection, elements of the work are populated by minute details. Curvilinear motifs fade in and out, and distinct rococo elements can also be detected.
Arakel and Arlo Hotels first collaborated on this Living Room Gallery for Miami Art Week in spring 2023 to allow guests and the general public to enjoy collector-grade art in a welcoming environment.
“Ultimately, I would like visual arts to have a place in people’s life the same way fashion or music does,” explained Arakel. “Through prolonged exposure and accessibility, I believe it can be achieved and we’re already beginning to see a cultural shift toward it.”
The exterior of Arlo Wynwood features works by Miami-based artist Hoxxoh and MILAGROS Collective. Other artists can be found on display throughout the hotel. Chris Rivers’ exhibition opens Dec. 4 and runs through Feb. 28.
