History

This month (April 15) marks the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, and the capital’s Crime Museum is commemorating the man who changed the course of history and kept the nation intact with a new walking tour, titled Assassinations in the Capital.

The 90-minute, two-mile tour takes museum-goers to various locations in Washington, D.C., including the site of President Garfield’s assassination, sites related to the conspiracy to kill President Lincoln, the site of an attempt on President Truman, the Navy Memorial, FBI Headquarters, the White House and Lafayette Square.

“Through the years, we have always put guest suggestions into action. Often tourists ask us if there is an assassination walking tour in D.C., so I am glad we can finally fulfill this request,” said Janine Vaccarello, chief operating officer, Crime Museum. “It seems appropriate to launch “Assassinations in the Capital” during the anniversary of Lincoln’s death and guests will experience not only Lincoln’s story, but other presidential assassinations in a unique Crime Museum fashion, and I have no doubt our guests will enjoy it.”

Participants can also visit the Crime Museum, to learn more about a wide variety of crime history. Temporary and permanent exhibits cover domestic terrorism, crime fighting, wildlife trafficking (coming soon) and more. The museum is hands-on, interactive and offers forensic workshops, summer camps, galleries and a crime library.
