Puerto Rico tourism is bouncing back after a significant plunge caused by the devastating Hurricane Maria. For months after the hurricane, the lush El Yunque National Rainforest was stripped of its beauty and closed due to unsafe conditions. Nature rebounded in full force, and the rainforest is now open to the public and bursting with vibrant colors and vegetation.
Carabalí Rainforest Adventure Park offers an array of adrenaline-fueled activities, but the most thrilling is the one-hour ATV Adventure. Your tour group will be led at a quick pace through the ranch’s 600 acres of rainforest trails. Come prepared to get dirty: You have free rein to splash through all the mud puddles your heart desires.
After half an hour of winding through narrow dirt channels and taking in the scenery, you’ll be given the chance to rinse off and relax in the crystal clear (and cold!) waters of the Mameyes River. While the landscape doesn’t change much from the first few minutes to the last, touring the rainforest is a great way to see and experience part of Puerto Rico’s natural environment.
Carabalí Rainforest Adventure Park is less than an hour away from San Juan by car, making it an easy daytrip from the capital city. Note that you must have a valid driver’s license to drive the ATV and be at least 12 years old to ride as a passenger.
